›How is this different from an HS code lookup?
An HS lookup answers "which tariff code and duty rate applies"; customs data answers "how much of this product is traded each year and with which countries". Use both for product selection and market sizing.
›Can I find specific buyers or suppliers here?
No. This is country-level official statistics aggregated by HS code, without company names. Company-level bill of lading data requires a separate data source.
›Why is data missing for some countries or years?
UN Comtrade depends on voluntary national reporting. Some countries do not report at HS detail, and some years are delayed. Try a shorter code (4-digit instead of 6) or an adjacent year.
›What currency and basis are the values in?
Values are in USD as declared to customs, typically FOB or CIF depending on the reporter. Use them for market sizing, not as a quotation basis.
›I need company-level shipment records — what now?
Bill-of-lading level data requires a commercial data licence. If you need to identify real buyers by product and market, contact us and we will propose a workable data combination for your industry.
